Liberty Half Dollar Mintage

485 million plus Liberty Half Dollars were struck beginning in 1916 and making the final run in 1947.

Approximately 74,000 Walking Liberty Half Dollar proof coins were struck, all in years 1936 thru 1942, plus a small quantity of matte-finish proofs in 1916 and 1917. Walkers typically display weak striking so proof coins do command a premium especially given the limited strike years.

The Walking Liberty Half series has only one significant error to speak of, the 1946-P double die reverse. It is the only one listed by PCGS. Other less notable varieties that have been reported such as 1928-S large and small mint marks, 1942 D over S and a 1943/2 over date. Also, 1941 proof coins were struck without the designers initials.
